´I don´t see why we shouldn´t win´ – BVB hero Hummels bullish ahead of Champions League final

Mats Hummels sees no reason why Borussia Dortmund cannot go on and win the Champions League following their hard-earned semi-final victory over Paris Saint-Germain.

The Black and Yellow are through to the final of Europe s premier club competition for only the third time after sealing a 2-0 aggregate over the reigning Ligue 1 champions, who struck the woodwork six times across both legs.

After Niclas Fullkrug settled last week s first leg at Signal Iduna Park, Hummels second-half header was the difference in the return at Parc des Princes, where Edin Terzic s side produced another defensive masterclass as they claimed their sixth clean sheet in this season s competition.

Dortmund, who lifted the trophy 27 years ago, will face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich …

Herrera expecting big 2019 for Sanchez at Man United

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is expecting Alexis Sanchez to produce his best once again in 2019 after a difficult first year at Old Trafford.

Sanchez joined United almost exactly a year ago, as he departed Arsenal on January 22, 2018, in a deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way.

The swap was arguably the biggest deal of the previous January transfer window, leading to much debate about which club had the better end of the bargain.

However, neither player has impressed in the last 12 months – Sanchez scoring just three times in 23 Premier League appearances for United while also suffering a series of injury issues.

But with United playing with much more creative freedom and attacking intent under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskja…

Roberto De Zerbi fears it may be ‘tough’ to keep Joao Pedro at Brighton

De Zerbi said: “He is the best player on the pitch, I think. He played another incredible game.

“I am really pleased for his improvement on mentality, on attitude. In defensive phase, incredible because he defended 90 minutes like a centre-back in terms of mentality.

“He is becoming, I think, a top player. I hope in the next year to work with him but I think it will be very tough.”

While Pedro tormented Tottenham all night long, it was a superb team display by Brighton, especially for the first hour on the south coast.

To top off an excellent end to 2023, Pervis Estupinan marked his first Premier League appearance since September with a superb 25-yard strike.

“It’s an incredible goal but the most important thing about Estupinan is we r…

Euro 2012 Group A Preview: Poland v Russia

Russia can book their spot in the Euro 2012 quarter-finals with victory against co-hosts Poland in Warsaw on Tuesday.

Dick Advocaat s side made an excellent start to the tournament, with a 4-1 Group A win against the Czech Republic in Wroclaw on Friday.

They are unbeaten in 15 games, defeated Italy 3-0 in their last friendly prior to Euro 2012 and dominated the Czechs in a sublime display of attacking football.

But despite all that, Advocaat says there is no chance of complacency creeping into the Russian camp.

Not once have I seen the players thinking this will be an easy game, as there are no easy games, Advocaat said.

Against Poland it will be a different game, a different opponent, and I think it will be a tougher match than the first one.<…

Juventus to bring in more exprience ahead of 2022-23 campaign, says Allegri

Massimiliano Allegri says Juventus will look to bring more experienced players into the squad ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

Juve s disappointing season ended with a whimper on Saturday as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi.

Alfred Duncan opening the scoring for a Fiorentina side who were far and away the superior team, before a late penalty from Nicolas Gonzalez finished the Bianconeri off.

It was the first time Fiorentina have won a Serie A home clash against Juventus since January 2017.

The game marked the end of Giorgio Chiellini, Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi s Juve careers, and Allegri acknowledged that the club, who have been linked with free transfer moves for Paul Pogba and Angel Di Maria, will need t…

World Cup 2014: Group B Stage Predictions, Outright Odds & Markets

With Brazil widely tipped to win Group A, Group B participants will be looking to avoid meeting the Seleccao in the first knockout stage, but pipping holders Spain to the first place in the group could prove to be mission impossible. La Furia Roja are searching for their fourth consecutive title at major tournaments and they are clearly favourites to win this group.

Rejuvenated Netherlands side led by experienced coach Louis van Gaal and stars like Robben, Sneijder and Van Persie aim to improve on their Euro 2012 showing when they crashed out in the group stage and they are likely to battle up-and-coming Chile side for the second place in the group, with Australia not really expected to create too many problems at the 2014 World Cup.

Euro 2012 final preview: Spain v Italy

Reigning European and world champions Spain hold no fears for Italy as the two sides prepare to meet in Sunday s Euro 2012 final in Kiev.

Neither side have lost a match in the tournament so far but it will be the Italians who enter the showpiece in better form.

Cesare Prandelli s side were excellent in their quarter-final win over England – which was only decided on penalties because of their poor finishing – and they backed it up with a superb 2-1 victory against an in-form Germany.

And although Spain will enter the final as favourites, Prandelli is confident his side can cause problems for their opponents.

We only have one day to prepare for this game but we will try to find Spain s weaknesses, Prandelli said.

They are the world and Europ…

Klopp reflects on 2022 in Liverpool Christmas message

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is proud of his team s achievements in 2022, including reaching a Champions League final he acknowledged was not one to remember.

The Reds finished second behind Manchester City in the Premier League last season, with the title race coming down to the final day.

Liverpool also won both domestic cup competitions, beating Chelsea on penalties on each occasion at Wembley Stadium.

However, their season ended in disappointment when their league heartbreak was followed by a 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in Paris.

That match was marred by an incident outside the Stade de France, where Liverpool fans were accused of using fake tickets to access the ground and subsequently caused a bottleneck that resulted in riot police firing tear gas …

On This Day in 2016: Valencia sack Gary Neville

Gary Neville was sacked by Valencia on this day in 2016 after spending only four months as the Spanish side’s head coach.

The former Manchester United and England defender, who at the time was part of Roy Hodgson’s England coaching staff, was dismissed just 28 games into what was his first management role.

That featured 10 wins, seven draws and 11 losses, including a 7-0 thrashing at Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.
