Bayern star hints at summer exit

Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has failed to rule out leaving Allianz Arena in the summer transfer window.

The 30-year-old has another year left on his deal wit the Bavarians, but seeing as he is no longer an undisputed starter, the Germany star appears to be considering his options.

Schweinsteiger has been heavily linked with a summer exit and he now admits that is a realistic possibility.

“I have agreed with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, that we sit down together in the summer,” the midfielder told reporters after the international friendly between Germany and USA.

“I am in no hurry and have another year left on my contract. It is still early in the summer.”

Bastian Schweinsteiger is one of those players that have never left t…

Sterling comments on racism ´will be a milestone´

Raheem Sterling s comments on racism will be seen as a milestone and have already affected media reporting, according to Fare executive director Piara Power.

Manchester City attacker Sterling s decision to speak out after he was racially abused in a Premier League game at Chelsea in December 2018 was praised by the chief of Fare, an organisation dedicated to combating inequality in football.

The England international argued the way the media reports about young black players contributes to racism in society, with Powar believing the point has been taken on board.

I think what Raheem did there was very important, Powar told Omnisport.  He was racially abused at Chelsea and rather than go after the perpetrators, or focus on that incident, he knew the world had …

Abdelhak Nouri is now communicating with his family, according to the Ajax footballer s brother.

Nouri was left with permanent brain damage after suffering heart failure during a friendly against Werder Bremen in July 2017.

The Eredivisie club subsequently confirmed Nouri was not expected to make a full recovery due to the severity of his injuries.

But, in an interview with Dutch national broadcaster NOS, Nouri s brother Abderrahim offered an update, revealing the family have seen improvements in the 21-year-old’s condition.

Not in the beginning, Abderrahim Nouri said when asked about his brother s ability to communicate. He was just in a coma and had his eyes closed. Slowly he was waking up a bit more and more.

But since December and Janu…

´We have nothing to lose,´ say Swiss

Switzerland have nothing to lose when they take on joint World Cup favourites Spain, Swiss defender Philippe Senderos said on the eve of Wednesday s match.

The Arsenal player, whose father is Spanish, added that his team could only hope to go out, remain solid at the back and cause a Spain team filled with talent and household names some problems.

Spain have a good chance (of winning the World Cup), and we will try our best to be at our best. We don t have much to lose tomorrow, but Spain has lots to lose, said Senderos.

We have to try to cause them some problems and get some points.

Spain deserve respect and after winning Euro 2008 they are one of the favourites. We re a small team and we ll go onto the pitch with the same mentality and do our best. …

Preview: Brazil – Chile

(GSM) A pair of South American rivals meet on the biggest stage of all on Monday evening as Brazil face Chile at Ellis Park in the World Cup Round of 16.

Brazil, winners of Group G ahead of Portugal, come into the game brimming with confidence despite a rather drab showing their final group game against the Portuguese.

Chile, meanwhile, looked very strong in winning its first two games before being brought back to Earth a bit by European champions Spain in their Group H finale.

In their two meetings in South American qualification, Brazil ran away with both contests.

In the first meeting in Santiago in September 2008, The Brazilians netted a 3-0 victory. In the return leg in Salvador de Bahía a year later, the Samba Boys romped to a 4-2 win.

Watford v West Brom: Flores backs new signings to flourish

An opening-day draw at Everton has given Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores plenty of cause for optimism ahead of Saturday s Premier League visit of West Brom.

Last season s Championship winners marked their return to the top flight with a creditable draw at Goodison Park – Odion Ighalo continuing his impressive goalscoring from the previous campaign.

Ighalo has scored 17 league goals in 2015 – more than any other player in the top four tiers of English football – ahead of Watford s return to Vicarage Road.

Like their visitors, Watford are seeking to remain active in the transfer market before the window shuts and are set to bring in experienced Italian Alessandro Diamanti.

Sunderland could be in ´serious trouble´, says Bruce

Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes former club Sunderland could be in serious trouble for fielding an ineligible player.

Sunderland confirmed on Friday they had received a fine from the Premier League after it emerged Ji Dong-Won, who moved to Augsburg on loan in January and will join Borussia Dortmund in the close-season, featured for the club this term despite not having international clearance.

The club admitted the offence blaming an administrative issue for the faux pas, and Sunderland consider the matter closed.

But Bruce who brought Ji to the Stadium of Light in June 2011 believes the club may face further punishment.

That s pretty bizarre stuff that it s only surfaced now and he s played in four games, he said. They should be in serious trouble, I wou…

Henderson: Run to final can inspire Liverpool in Champions League

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson believes last season s Champions League run can inspire his team this campaign.

Jurgen Klopp s men reached the final in 2017-18 before suffering a 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the decider in Kiev in May.

While there have been some changes to the squad, Henderson – whose team begin their Champions League campaign at home to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday – feels those performances can perhaps lead to another run.

We can take a lot from it, a lot of confidence from that run to the final, he said, via the Liverpool Echo.

Obviously we want to go even further this year but we can use the experience in big games like this.

My medal is in the draw at home. No-one likes a loser s medal, but at the same time the expe…

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea set Premier League record

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea have set a Premier League record by remaining unbeaten after the first 10 rounds of fixtures.

Champions City romped to the Premier League title last term and moved back to the top of the table with a 1-0 Wembley win over Tottenham on Monday.

But they look set to face stronger competition if they are to defend their crown, with Liverpool also having won eight of their 10 matches so far.

Chelsea, champions in 2016-17 and resurgent under new coach Maurizio Sarri, are only two points further back after Sunday s thumping 4-0 win at Burnley.

And although Arsenal s seven-match winning streak came to an end with a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend, Unai Emery has the Gunners in the hunt.
