Stones lauds ´frightening´ Foden talent as Southgate faces selection dilemma

John Stones says he has never seen a young player as talented as Phil Foden, as Gareth Southgate weighs up whether to stick with the Manchester City man for England s World Cup last-16 clash with Senegal.

Foden was left out of England s line-up for their first two games in Qatar – a 6-2 thrashing of Iran and a goalless draw with the United States – but he got on the scoresheet after starting Tuesday s 3-0 win over Wales.

He led his team-mates for expected goals (1.04 xG), shots in the Wales area (four) and crosses (five) last time out, and Foden s City colleague expects him to continue impressing.

I ve never seen anyone at that age like Phil, with his ability, his football knowledge, and his freedom in how he plays and how he expresses himself, Stones said …

´We don´t want to feel like this again´ – Pulisic proud, but wants USA to build towards winning a Wo

The United States must be proud of their efforts at the World Cup in Qatar, but Christian Pulisic insisted the team don t want to feel like this again.

A 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha saw the USA knocked out of the competition on Saturday.

While the Dutch had a quarter-final against either Australia or Argentina to look forward to, the USA s focus will now turn to developing their young squad further ahead of the 2026 edition.

That tournament will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico, and feature 48 countries, and Pulisic wants to see a team with title-winning quality.

Right now, it s just tough, you know? It hurts, after a tough loss like that, we feel like we could have had more, he said.

TP Mazembe v Sanfrecce Hiroshima: Douglas calls for focus

Sanfrecce Hiroshima forward Douglas warned his team not to look any further than their Club World Cup quarter-final meeting with TP Mazembe.

The J.League champions claimed a 2-0 win over Auckland City on Thursday to progress to the last eight in Japan.

Yusuke Minagawa and Tsukasa Shiotani struck in Yokohama after poor goalkeeping from Auckland custodian Jacob Spoonley.

Douglas, who scored 21 league goals this season, said it was crucial for his team to stay focused on CAF Champions League winners TP Mazembe.

The winner of Sunday s clash in Osaka will face Argentinian side River Plate in the semi-finals.

Mazembe are a strong team, and they defeated Internacional [de Porto Alegre] in the past [in 2010], Douglas told FIFA.com.

Tottenham 4 Sunderland 1: Eriksen at the double in comeback win

Christian Eriksen scored twice as Tottenham came from behind to beat Premier League strugglers Sunderland 4-1 at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

A draw at Everton and a midweek defeat to Leicester City had dampened talk of a Spurs title tilt but Eriksen benefited from two touches of fortune to haunt Sunderland again while Mousa Dembele and Harry Kane also helped end the visitors mini-revival.

Separated by 14 spots prior to kick-off, 18th-placed Sunderland withstood long spells of Spurs pressure before Patrick van Aanholt scored for the second time this week to break the deadlock against the run of play 40 minutes in.

Spurs were level before half-time, however, as Lee Cattermole failed to clear Eriksen s effort on the line. The Denmark international has now s…

Santos Laguna v America: Defending champs eye back-to-back finals

Standing in the way of title holders America and another CONCACAF Champions League final are Santos Laguna as the Mexican rivals prepare to go head-to-head in the final four.

Santos welcome six-time winners America to Estadio Corona for the opening leg of their semi-final tie on Wednesday.

America head to Torreon having dispatched MLS side Seattle Sounders 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.

The Liga MX giants also overcame Chivas Guadalajara in Sunday s Clasico Nacional.

But while two-time runners-up Santos are wary of an America team boasting Oribe Peralta, Carlos Quintero and Michael Arroyo who have scored 10 goals between them in the Champions League midfielder Diego Gonzalez is bullish about their chances.

Genoa announce Centurion deal

Serie A side Genoa have announced that they have completed the signing of Ricardo Centurion from Sao Paulo.

The Rossoblu announced the transfer on their official website, having reportedly paid €5 million for his services.

Centurion had already spent a year with Genoa, on loan from Racing Club, making 12 Serie A appearances during the 2013/2014 campaign.

He was later sold to Sao Paulo, where he failed to justify the money invested in him, but in turn impressed during a loan stint with Boca Juniors.

Centurion, 24, had a key role to play in helping La Xeneize win the league title, scoring 8 goals in 22 appearances.

Liverpool move for Oxlade-Chamberlain

Liverpool are ready to make a £25m move for Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to the Mirror.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation but the Merseyside outfit are keen to steal a march on their rivals as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a season back in the Champions League.

The England international started just sixteen Premier League games last season while he has only bettered that tally once since arriving at the North London club six years ago.

In total, the twenty-three year old has made one hundred and ninety-four appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, scoring twenty goals while he has been part of the squads that have won the FA Cup in three of the past four seasons.

Bayern to restart Sane chase in January

Bayern have been working on bringing in Leroy Sane from Manchester City since April this year, and though the move hasn t happened this summer, they plan to revisit the situation in January, claims the respected German journalist .

Though he was absolutely vital to City s 100-point march to the Premier League title in 2017/18, Sane s influence in the team diminished significantly last summer with the arrivals of Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez. Injuries weren t very kind on him either, and he was being left out of the starting XI by manager Pep Guardiola increasingly often throughout last season. In April, Bayern got a wind of him being open to a return to Germany.

Ahead of the Community Shield in which City faced Liverpool in early August, a breakthrough in the negotia…

Nigeria 2 Iceland 0: Musa brace boosts Super Eagles & Argentina

Ahmed Musa struck both goals as Nigeria boosted their World Cup qualification hopes with a 2-0 defeat of Iceland, a result that is also good news for Argentina.

Lionel Messi s team were pushed to the brink of an early exit after a stunning 3-0 loss to Croatia on Thursday, but victory in their final Group D game against Nigeria could now send them through to the last 16.

Musa was left out of Nigeria s loss to Croatia but he justified his recall to the side with the opening goal shortly after the interval at the Volgograd Arena on Friday.

The forward controlled a cross from Victor Moses and thumped an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net, with Musa becoming the Super Eagles top scorer in the history of the tournament courtesy of his third World Cup goal.
